In July, 2015, Lorraine Greaves and Donna McCaw of Elora met over lunch and decided that Elora needed a women's film society. They had been introduced by a mutual friend who been involved with Studio D of the National Film Board, the productive factory for women's film in Canada that existed from 1974-1996 and produced over 150 films.

After a cameo appearance at the Guelph International Film Festival in 2015, the Elora Women's Film Society had its first event in April, 2016, showing three films, by, for and about women.

This year, the EWFS has expanded to five members, including Jan Feduck, Monika Lassner and Libby Carlaw, and we are enthusiastically planning our coming season, bringing women's film to Elora and area.
